Called to contemplate the cost of discipleship today, we might be helped by translating Paul's request to Philemon into our prayer of the day: Refresh my heart in Christ. Strengthened by the company and forgiveness of the Christ in the Blessed Sacrament and recalling God's grace in remembrance of baptism, we can be strengthened in this hour to choose life-to choose life in God as our own.

Worship & Music
This Sunday is the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost. In the gospel reading for that day, Luke writes of how Jesus speaks frankly about the fearsome costs of discipleship. Those who follow him should know from the outset that completing the course of discipleship will finally mean renouncing all other allegiances. Because of these themes, we have songs and hymns in worship such as Will You Come and Follow Me (8:30), I Want to Follow You (9:50) and Lift High the Cross (11:00).
In addition, this Sunday Bells of Life returns to worship. They will be ringing during various times in worship. They offer to us Celebrate with Joy, Fanfare and Exultation, and Shall We Gather at the River. Celebrate with Joy was written to celebrate the life of Shelby Brown, who lived from 1995-2007. During communion the bell choir will ring Shall We Gather at the River. Throughout much of the piece you will hear the middle or bass bells in a flowing pattern that mimics the sound of a flowing stream or babbling brook.
Welcome New Members!
Please help us welcome our newest members who will be received this Sunday at the 9:50 service: Kathy Colgan, Mary Hoyt, and the McGarry family, Conrad, Dawn, Elena, & Gabrielle.

When You Thought No One Was Looking
The choir at the 9:50 service always looks so organized, don't they? How do they keep their music all situated and in order? Just ask Linda Page. She volunteers for the music depart, preparing the music binders for the New Life choir. Her weekly job consists of taking out the old music, and putting in the new sheets for the upcoming Sunday. She then sorts the previously used music and stores it in a large binder ready to be retrieved at a later date. Thanks Linda, for helping the choir make that beautiful music we love to hear on Sunday mornings!
