The 14th Annual LOL Golf tournament benefitting the
Gebert Mission Outreach Fund
is coming Sept 19, 2008!

March 5, 2008---

The Golf Committee has set Friday, September 19, 2008 for our annual golf event. We will tee up again at River Plantation Country Club. It will be hard to beat last year’s successful event, but we plan on doing just that! Stay tuned to the LifeLine for more information on this great golf outing. The tournament will benefit the Gebert Mission Outreach Fund.

2007 Tournament News

The 13th Annual Lord of Life Golf Tournament, held on September 21, 2007 and benefitting the Gebert Mission Outreach Fund, was a rousing success. As a result of the financial support for this years tournament, a check for $29,500 was presented on Sunday, September 30, to the Lord of Life Council. This contribution, added to the previous endowment from past fund-raising activities, brings the total of the Gebert Mission Outreach Fund to a bit over $265,000. What happens now?

This $265,000 is invested; and while the principal amount is never diminished, the interest from the endowment (between 3% and 5% per year) is allocated for outreach by Lord of Life. This allocation is governed by the Gebert Mission Outreach Fund Board. Each year the interest is made available to the Outreach Committee. What do they do with it?

The Outreach Committee studies all the requests for outreach that are received during the year, and on a semi-annual basis, recommends to the Lord of Life Council a distribution of the funds in support of various activities. But this is not the only source of funds for the allocation by the Outreach Committee. Ten percent of all the money that is still being contributed to the Spreading Our Wings Building Fund (primarily in the form of pledges that have not yet been completed) also goes for distribution by Outreach. And this is still not all! (We are truly a generous and sharing church congregation!!) The final source of funds are the individual donations that are made directly to Outreach, on either a designated or an un-designated basis.

And there you have it. We have gone from a wonderfully fun social event to our church’s support of missionaries in Africa (the Hinderlies), support of apartments housing cancer patients and their families near the Medical Center in Houston (Helping Hands), donations to a home providing care for special needs children who otherwise would have no one to care for them, among others.

QUESTIONS? Ask a golf committee member, you can find us at the golf table between services on Sunday mornings.

"I AM NOT A GOLFER – HOW CAN I HELP?"

One way of supporting this effort, in addition to participation and sponsorship, is by donating prizes that are awarded to golfers and for a post tournament drawing. Donated prizes help to reduce the golf committee operating costs, which are then directly applied to the Gebert Mission Fund. Your gifts can be golf related such as golf clubs, putters, golf balls and umbrellas, or other items like retail/restaurant gift certificates or providing certain services.

The golf committee will also be providing goodie bags to about 100 golfers. This is another opportunity for anyone who is in a position to provide small items of an advertising nature such as pens, tees, snacks and the like.

If you are interested in contributing a gift, prize or goodie bag item, and enhancing the Gebert Mission Outreach Fund too, please email or phone Doug Wage at 281-363-9932.

GET OUT THOSE CLUBS and head to the practice range, the Lord of Life Golf Tournament is just around the corner!

The Lord of Life Golf Tournament is just around the corner. We will meet again on the fairways of River Plantation Country Club in Conroe on Friday, September 21 with a shotgun start at 1:30 pm.

Registration for the tournament this year will open at 11:00 am, followed at l2:00 Noon with an informational golf clinic hosted by famous golf instructor Jim Hardy and our own LPGA Hall of Fame member and golf instructor, Carol Mann. This clinic promises to be a very special addition to our tournament. In appreciation for Jim and Carol donating their time and golf expertise to the tournament this year, our golf committee has designated 10% of the golf only fee to the efforts of GOLF FORE AFRICA and the 13,000 plus orphans of Mudasomwa, Rwanda.

The deadline for registration this year will be September 17, so look for the entry form in this issue of Lifeline or pick one up at the golf table in the Fellowship Hall. We will also have information available on Golf Fore Africa, an International Charity Initiative of the Ladies Professional Golf Association.

QUESTIONS? Check out the enclosed golf registration form or ask a golf committee member. You can find us at the golf table in the Fellowship Hall between services on Sunday mornings.
If you are not a golfer, consider a sponsorship or direct gift. The proceeds of this event and past tournaments go to the GEBERT MISSION OUTREACH FUND.
