ALTAR GUILD IN A NUTSHELL
Setting God's Table
Did you take Communion last Sunday? How about the Sunday before that? If you did, then thank an Altar Guild member for helping to make that possible. To prepare for Communion, Altar Guild members supply the bread, fill serving trays, set up the altar, and present the bread and wine. Volunteer cleanup follows the 11:00 service.
Decorating God's House
Did you notice the beautiful red banners, paraments, and candles two weeks ago to celebrate Pentecost? And did you notice that these banners, paraments, and candles were white last week to celebrate The Holy Trinity and now green for the Sundays after Pentecost? Altar Guild members help enhance our worship by decorating the Sanctuary with paraments, banners, flowers, and candles throughout the year as the church seasons change and festivals occur.
The Mechanics
Altar Guild responsibilities are shared each week among four members - two member teams for both the 8:30 and 11:00 services. Currently these teams share responsibilities for the 9:50 service. Most people serve about once a month, and the time commitment may be as little as 30 minutes. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a guild as "an association of people with similar interests or pursuits". That's it! Altar Guild is not a secret society, there are no meetings, and there is a place for you! Please prayerfully consider joining. Better yet, ask your spouse, friend or other family members to join with you.

Here at Lord of Life we are blessed to be able to celebrate Holy Communion every week at each of our three Sunday morning worship services. At many churches, Communion is celebrated only on a monthly basis or, in some cases, semi-annually! Here at Lord of Life, we are nourished by the Word and Sacrament more than 170 times per year!

A dedicated Altar Guild is the "behind-the-scenes" group that helps ensure that we are indeed prepared for Communion.
